Telehandlers are among the most flexible pieces of equipment found on worksites today, offering forklift power coupled with crane reach. But with flexibility comes danger. If not properly trained and watched, telehandlers can turn into a danger in seconds.

Below are a few safety practices every operator needs to be aware of:
1. Always Inspect Before Use
Inspect tires, brakes, hydraulic systems, and attachments before operation. Proper inspection can avoid accidents due to mechanical failure.
2. Never Exceed Load Limits
The most frequent cause of telehandler accidents is overloading. Always stick to the load chart and apply the appropriate attachment for the task.
3. Secure a Stable Work Area
Slippery ground, mud, or slopes can lead to tipping. Place the telehandler on firm ground before lifting.
4. Maintain Clear Visibility
Never work blind. Employ spotters when necessary and keep mirrors and cameras clean.
5. Obtain Proper Training
Both seasoned equipment operators require telehandler-specific training. Becoming certified ensures operators understand the safe operation of the machine.
Bottom Line: Telehandlers are effective equipment, but safety always prevails. With training, inspections, and safe working practices, operators can minimize risks and maintain productive jobsites.
